Our Mission
Read our FAQ here.
After founding and running a successful Boston-based tutoring company, called Veritas Tutors, I felt obligated to provide similar high-quality academic instruction to those students, who for financial or geographic reasons could not engage our services. During my undergraduate days at Harvard, I had also made a habit of auditing at least one class each semester for the general purpose of intellectual entertainment—school is much more fun and sometimes more fruitful without the burden of papers and exams.
With those two experiences behind me, I was compelled to create TheFinalClub.org, an online venue for advanced, engaging, and interesting academic discourse about all scholarly subjects. As with Veritas Tutors, the site would rely on the intellectual capital of Harvard University with paid student bloggers and annotators to "seed" the website with ample provocative content. The mission is to establish a community of users to rank, comment on, and contribute to the already awesome content on the site.
Currently, we have annotated several great works of literature, philosophy, and history— in the vein of what an inspiring tutor would teach while reading along with a student. Those annotations are generally conceived as the antithesis of certain note-taking companies that shall not be named, because our website encourages students to fully engage with great texts rather than provide an excuse to avoid reading them all together. We have also created an intuitive infrastructure for linking works and annotations in order to convey the inter-connectivity of scholarly and literary thought.
The second innovative aspect of TheFinalClub.org involves Course Blogs written by Harvard students and based on the content of their current classes. While anyone is free to annotate, only registered Harvard students are permitted to compose blogs. This decision was made to address the "authorship problem" plaguing many other websites, most notably Wikipedia. While we fully endorse the Democratization of information, we are also aware that "knowledge" and "wisdom" inherently require an Aristocratic approach for the sake of reliability.
Ultimately, we would like to establish TheFinalClub.org as the most trustworthy portal for high-quality academic exploration based on innovative approaches to online education and a community of dedicated thinkers. Since, we can't do it alone, we welcome the help of anyone who is passionate about making quality educational content freely available to the entire world.
